Over the past six years Dani Baker, co-owner of Cross Island Farms, has developed just under an acre of her certified organic farm as a multi-functional “Enchanted Edible Forest” garden encompassing numerous permaculture principles and practices. The garden contains over 350 cultivars of edible fruits, nuts, berries, flowers and other edibles.
The garden is designed to be wheel-chair accessible. It is elegantly landscaped, including a number of native limestone patios, two small ponds, and a bridge, trellis and gates fashioned from native white cedar. The word that visitors most often spontaneously use to describe it is “magical.”
During the Permaculture Weekend Tours Dani will elucidate permaculture principles and with numerous examples as she guides visitors through the garden.
Cross Island Farms produces Certified Organic Pastured Pork, Goat, Beef, and “Just Laid” Eggs , Certified Organic fruits and vegetables, and other all-natural produce. Farm tours, primitive camping, The Edible Forest Garden, organic workshops, and organic volunteer opportunities make Cross Island Farms an international agri-tourism destination.

Our Vision is to build an ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable farm, diversified in plant and animal life, that provides us with a reasonable living, our community with healthy, wholesome food, the environment with a good neighbor, and provides educational opportunities for as many people as possible about how to produce organic, sustainable, local, healthy food. We also want to be able to have this vision and this farm continue long after we are gone.
